Collarts' At-Home AusMusic T-Shirt Day

Apr 17, 2020

This year's AusMusic T-Shirt Day is special: as the music industry struggles in the midst of event and tour cancellations, Triple J has moved the celebratory day up a few months to encourage all music-lovers to throw their support around the scene, donate to Support Act, and buy a t-shirt. Our Collarts family threw on the merch of our favourite artists, from Slim Set to You Am I, and revealed why they love Australian music (and why you should too).

Lauren-TonightAlive

LAUREN — DIGITAL & SOCIAL MEDIA

Tonight Alive are one of many bands that I listened to during my teenage years. Their music played a major role in the influence music had on me, and what ultimately, drove me to wanting to pursue a music-based career!

Anna-CourtneyBarnett

ANNA HICKEY — FASHION MARKETING COORDINATOR

Today I’m wearing my Courtney Barnett shirt because I love her voice, her ideas and how she has contributed to the Australian music scene. It’s still refreshing and inspiring to see a talented woman carving out her own space whilst building up others in the scene. I love the humour in her lyrics and her videos.

Sarah-CubSport

SARAH — ENTERTAINMENT MANAGEMENT

Cub Sport's journey to self acceptance has been admirable to watch and I love the diversity they bring to the Australian music scene!

Michelle-GBC

MICHELLE — FASHION & SUSTAINABILITY

My favourite oz band is Grievous Bodily Calm (WA) and I fancy their sounds because it gets my feet going, no matter where I am. A great pick-me up for when you need motivation to move and eclectic sounds of jazzy experimental soundscapes.

Mon-SlimSet

MONIQUE MYINTOO — CONTENT & SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER

I love the cheeky cathartic energy of Slim Set so damn much, I had to rep them. A producer-rapper duo from Western Sydney, their sound is truly unique in the underground of Australian hip-hop; mixing everything from rap to experimental electronica into a sound that is wholly theirs. In short, everyone needs to stop sleeping on Slim Set IMO.

Jesse-12FootNinja-1

JESSE HOOPER — HEAD OF MUSIC PERFORMANCE

Couldn’t decide which Twelve Foot Ninja shirt to wear so giving them both a run. Don't forget to donate to Support Act if you are able to, guys! Every bit counts.

Declan-Loser

DECLAN — ENTERTAINMENT MANAGEMENT

LOSER are made up of ex-members of a bunch of the bands that got me really into local music, and now that they're part of the Wrangler community and I've also gotten to play with them, I've fallen in love with this band too.

Tiffany-LimeCordiale-1
TIFFANY — ENTERTAINMENT MANAGEMENT

Listening to Lime Cordiale makes me forget all my problems and allows me to boogie my stress away. Also the boys themselves are so interactive with their listeners and makes them feel so special!

Katy-YouAmI

KATY — INDUSTRY AWARENESS LEADER

You Am I were one of the first Aussie bands that I worked with and even though Ive seen them hundreds of times, I never grew tired of their music. Absolute killer musicians with killer songs. I had dozens of their shirts back in the day and this has always been a fave.

Sharna-EasyBrowns
SHARNA — ENTERTAINMENT JOURNALISM

I saw these guys at the Dart & Marlin bar in Warrnambool and they threw a flute in during their set, and I vibed with it straight away. Stuck around for a few beers and a chat, and these guys were such a rad crew. I wear that shirt in memory of that night!

Amariah-LooseEnds

AMARIAH — MUSIC PRODUCTION

Loose End are a punk pop / metalcore band based in Melbourne. They're fantastic to see live and have genuinely worked really hard to make themselves who they're slowly becoming. I love their commitment to the band, their artwork and of course their music. Not to mention they're all top blokes that you'd 100% want as your best mates; the fun times and laughs they have together is heartwarming to see in a band nowadays. Go check them out on Spotify and give their new track 'Discontent' a listen!
